Lighting Part 1: The Entry

Hello and welcome to my first post dedicated to lighting. I've split the lighting up because it would be way long if I tried to cram all the lighting we've changed into one post.

We're working on changing every single light in the house (and every single outlet and switch but that is a different post). It's not that anything was terribly wrong with the lighting in the house. The fixtures were just not our style, and honestly a little funky. We have successfully replaced about half of the fixtures in Luwana. Hopefully by the time I get done writing about the ones we have done, we will have finished the others!

So, without further ado, I will begin the tour de lights.

When you enter the house, the first room you come into is the small entry and the light that greeted you was this:

Sorry for the poor quality I forgot an actual before picture. This is from the listing.

It was fine and it was doing its job but I wanted something with a little more flair. I toyed around with the idea of doing something like this:

but ultimately decided that a) I couldn't find a mirror like the one in the tutorial and b) it was probably too much flair for our little space.

So instead I went combing IKEA and I found this:

The KRUSNING pendant lamp shade from IKEA

It was perfect. When I got it out of the box and assembled though, for the life of me I could not figure out how to make it look like the picture. That turned out to be a blessing though because I like how it turned out so much better. My husband says it looks like a flower. I kind of agree and I love it.

tada!

The light is technically a pendant light so it comes with a hole in the middle to thread a light through. Since the space is so small I wanted it to be flush with the ceiling, not hanging like a pendant would. To achieve this I just held the light flush against the mount with the light bulb. However, because the light is essentially made out of paper, I was a little hesitant about having a bulb so close to it. Luckily I had ordered this bulb a month or so ago for a different project.

From Amazon. I got the warm white option.

This bulb was perfect for the light fixture. Since it is essentially twinkle lights inside of a light bulb, it doesn't get warm to the touch. Also, since you can see the bulb from certain angles it was nice to have a bulb with a fun aesthetic of its own.

So now we have replaced our entry light from something that screams 'outdated' to one with a little more whimsy. A much better starting point for the home! One more picture of her all lit up because I can't stop staring at it and I'm so happy with how it turned out!
